Rose-colored Glasses

The second part in this weekend devotional is from 1 John 2:5-6;

Whosoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

What a gift this opportunity is to “whosoever.”  Within that little word therein lies great potential for each one of us.

I am a whosoever as are you. We all have the opportunity to keep His word and by doing so the love of God will be perfected in us. Demonstrated and lived out.

Whosoever keeps His word.

A short statement holding incredible and unlimited potential. God love. Not man’s limited love. God’s agape unconditional love, within ME (and you) if we choose to become a “whosoever.”

He goes on to show us how we can be certain that He is in us… it is through the fruit of our walk. What we do, how we act, truly… how we LOVE.

That is what will transform our walk,  our response, our everything.

Let’s see if I get this. . .
If I keep His Word. Learn it, study it, practice living it out within ME.  God (because God IS love) dwells and begins living out of me.

Influencing my reactions and actions as His love covers all I encounter. As this happens I begin to see life through “rose-colored glasses” recognizing or perhaps even seeing the pain behind people’s swift responses rather than just seeing the response. The compassion and love of Jesus will rise up and ..

rather than striking back… I will respond in love.

As this happens I will realize that He is in me.  I will begin to notice I am not reacting to people and events in the same way.  I begin to see the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my life… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5)

 My part?  learning His word
The teachings of Jesus throughout the New Testament. How to live life well. How to rely on Him.

His part? all  the rest.
To dwell in me. To fill me with His love so I can see the world, love the world, as He does.

Jesus, my prayer is to walk as you did. To be obedient to the Father in all things and all ways. Forgive me for the times I allow this flesh to rise up and influence my decisions and actions. Help me to hold fast to your word and remain in You. Allow my life to be a reflection of you, of Him, to all people.  Amen.
